At the trailhead!

The last few weeks have been jam packed with tying up loose ends on planning, seeing family and friends, and trying to fit in those summer activities I’ll miss while hiking.

Although we only had 1 day in San Diego, it was the perfect place to unwind and eat some great food before heading to the trailhead. Landen and I visited the USS Midway Museum, relaxed be the beach, and of course ate plenty of tacos.

Campo & Cleef

Today, we caught the shuttle bus and made the trip to Campo. The shuttle dropped us off near the Southern Terminus where we entered our names in the book, took photos, and stuck our arms through the border wall. The wall makes a bizarre noise when you clap your hands towards it…

This weekend in Campo is the first rodeo of the season which takes place on the same grounds as the campground. Of the rodeo events, I think “mutton-busting” is my favourite. Later, we listened to the PCT vets here at CLEEF share some key learnings from their time on the trail. Thank you to One Speed, Papa Bear, and Just Paul for the knowledge and your hard work at CLEEF.

Tomorrow is our first day on trail and am I ever excited! We’ll be starting with a big breakfast made by the volunteers here and then we’ll on our way!

Surreal.
